DESCRIPTION
This project involved the complete reconstruction of Runway 5 / 23, the primary runway at Coolidge Municipal Airport, along with the intersection of Runways 5 / 23 and 17 / 35.
Key airport tenants, including CPS (a private contractor providing parachute jump training for the DOD) and Davis-Monthan Air Force Base (conducting equipment drops and ancillary training on the runway), required uninterrupted operations during construction. To achieve this, Banicki collaborated with AirOps to develop a tailored Construction Safety Phasing Plan (CSPP). This plan included reviewing access control for First Responders and ARFF (Air Rescue and Fire Fighting) teams, coordinating updated runway/taxiway markings and signage, deploying trained flaggers at critical runway thresholds during training, and conducting hourly barricade checks to ensure compliance with NOTAMs and operational restrictions.
PRECONSTRUCTION SERVICES
Banicki worked with designer Kimley-Horn to successfully incorporate grade changes outside the runway to better facilitate drainage away from the runway. This change eliminated part of the storm drain system, providing significant cost savings for the City of Coolidge.
