DESCRIPTION

This Design-Build project focused on enhancing roadway aesthetics, traffic flow, and pedestrian safety along Monroe Avenue (Old U.S. 80) through Buckeye’s historic district. The project scope included constructing chicanes with architectural landscaping and integrated drainage features to slow traffic, beautify the historic roadway, and improve delineation of roadside parking. Additional improvements included stamped concrete crosswalks, asphalt milling and resurfacing, sidewalks, ADA-compliant upgrades, curb and gutter, architectural landscaping with irrigation, drainage improvements, traffic signal upgrades, utility adjustments, and decorative manhole covers.

DESIGN PHASE SERVICES

During the design phase, Banicki worked closely with the City of Buckeye and designer Kimley-Horn to ensure the project met both aesthetic and functional goals within tight budget constraints. Banicki led pricing and quantity development for all improvements, sourcing local materials to enhance cost efficiency and maintain the project’s historical integrity. The team applied value engineering to the chicane design, optimizing both functionality and visual impact while meeting drainage, traffic calming, and beautification goals along Monroe Avenue.
