DESCRIPTION
Delivered at best value for the City of Phoenix Aviation Department, this award-winning project received four prestigious honors for excellence in partnering, quality, and execution. The scope involved the removal and reconstruction of 93,593 SY (19.34 acres) of 18” thick PCCP aircraft apron in the high-traffic Terminal 4 South Apron Area at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX).
To ensure successful delivery, Banicki coordinated extensively with COP Aviation, COP Environmental, PHX Operations, Southwest Airlines, and designer AECOM to minimize disruptions. Situated within an active airport movement area adjacent to operational gates, the project was largely conducted at night to reduce impacts on daily airport activities.
PRECONSTRUCTION SERVICES
During preconstruction, Banicki collaborated with COP Aviation and Southwest Airlines to re-phase the project for schedule acceleration and to reduce operational impacts. A revised phasing plan was developed, taking advantage of low air traffic volume and weekend work, allowing Banicki to demo and pave larger sections of the PCCP aircraft apron at a time, enabling quicker turnarounds for impacted gates.
